MAN D2848 LE 401 680hp at 2300. Starboard good running take out with about 2800 hrs. since new. Fuel pump rebuilt within last year. 3 New heads and valves installed 2yrs age, upgraded to the new style MAN valves. Engine runs great no smoke. heat exchanger and aftercoolers cleaned about 18 months ago. Port Engine fuel pump rebuilt same time as the Starboard engine. Maybe 30 hours on the fuel pump rebuilds. Had a slight knocking noise still in port engine. So after fuel pumps where replaced and both engines running I had the mechanic do a bore scope we seen something in one cylinder. I had him pull the engine down and inspect. I had 2 complete holes rebuilt and the other 6 we put new liners and rings. I also put 8 new heads and new upgraded MAN valves. 20 hours later a piston let go and now engine block and crank is no good. Fuel pump and heads are still in great shape.
